Essay Writing Competition 2023:

Writing competitions are an excellent way to challenge yourself and hone your writing skills. This year, the is hosting an essay writing competition open to students from all over the world! The competition is open for entries from April 02, 2023 to December 18, 2023 All essays must be submitted in English and entries should not exceed the maximum word limit of 1500 words. The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of $10,000 along with a certificate of achievement.

Authors of the best essays (finalists) will be invited to participate in the World Bank Conference 2021 on Development Economics.

The Essay Competition 2023 is organized by the World Bank, the Cities Alliance and the Government of Sweden, in partnership with: ABS Incorporated USA.


Steering Committee and Advisory Committee:

The Essay Competition is organized by the World Bank in partnership with several outstanding academic and civil society institutions who form the Steering Committee and Advisory Committee. The role of those Committees is to determine the topic and format of the contest as well as to ensure a fair and transparent process of selecting the winners.

The Advisory Committee includes representatives of Government of Sweden, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, UN-HABITAT, United Cities and Local Governments.


Review Committee

Essays will be reviewed by the Review Committee, consisting of some members of the Steering Committee and Advisory Committee.

Evaluation criteria include: quality of proposals, structure, coherence of arguments, originality/creativity, style, use of sources and evidence.

The jury will complete their selections of finalists in December 28, 2023, after a three-stage review process. Essays will be blind-reviewed. Finalists will be invited to present their essays to a panel of experts during the Final Jury. The winner(s) will present their award by means of money transfer by the end of March 2024.

Eligibility:
The competition is intended for youth aged 18-25 from Singaporean National only. Anyone born between the year 1998 and 2023 inclusive is invited to take part in the competition. No exceptions will be granted.
